Estonian bodybuilding & fitness year 2014 - the highlights!

The new season 2015 is about to begin. But before that happens, let's do a little recap of the last year. Looking at these achievements, the year was obviously nothing but a great success to the Estonian athletes, may this year be even better for all of you!

In March the annual AC weekend and Arnold Classic amateur event kicks off the international amateur season. Egle Eller-Nabi heads to Columbus, Ohio to defend her runner up spot achieved in 2013, but unfortunately this time slightly misses her peak and places on 14th spot in her class with totally 28 competitors.

April starts in Europe with FIBO - the multisport festival and expo. Estonia is represented well as always!

Meanwhile in Estonia the national contest year gets started with the 6th edition of Louna-Eesti karikavoistlused. At the end of the day Ellen Parik (bikini), Daniel Schvalbe (men’s physique), Jürgen Ots (juniors), Janar Rückenberg (men’s open) and Darola Kruusik (body fitness) get to celebrate the over all victories. Kristjan-Johannes Konsap shows some heavenly posing skills and thanks for the best poser award.

The show must go on and so does the hectic month continue already during the next week as on 12th april the Estonian bodybuilding and fitness fans gather to witness the 6th version of Reval Cup. No surprises. Darola Kruusik dominates the body fitness class, Kristina Aleksejeva is the best bikini fitness athlete of the day, Nikita Dvorkin earns the biggest trophy in men's physique class and Rainer Palm takes the title at the junior over all battle. Crowd favorite Kristjan-Johannes Konsap wins it all and get handed with over all crown in men's open class.

In the same weekend the elite of Estonian women compete in Kiev, Ukraine at the World Ladies Cup and make undoubtedly the country proud: Reet Reimets invades the last podium spot in her class and places 3rd, Egle Eller-Nabi takes 4th place and Kristina Nuut 5th. Aleksandra Laer ends up on 7th place and our body fitness representant Anastasija Žerdetskaja 4th.

The month ain't over yet. On 19th of April Loaded Cup invites Ott Kiivikas to fly to Ringsted, Denmark. The show appears to be once again fantastic and very competitive and so is Ott who after tons of mandatory poses finally takes the runner up placement in up to 90kg class right after the over all winner German Manuel Bauer.

Only a one week later Ott Kiivikas is on the road again - this time the destination is Malmö where the show called Sweden Grand Prix takes place. Ott shows the Loaded Cup had been just a warm up, takes the victory in his own class and celebrates also the bodybuilding over all title!

In May HUGE Estonian team heads to Riiga to represent the country at Läti lahtised meistrivoistlused and Baltic match. The biggest stars of the day are Ott Kiivikas, Endla Vaher and Egle Eller-Nabi who all take the top honors at their classes! The results of the others are nothing to shame for, quite opposite!

In May also...

...the biggest IFBB amateur event sees its daylight. Estonia sends 18 athletes the represent the country at the IFBB European Championships held in Santa Susanna, Spain at 10th-18th May. Already the first contest day - friday - proves that that there is no tourists in the huge team:Rain Kuusnõmm takes silver medal in his CBB class, Imre Vähi makes a great comeback to the international stages by taking 6th place in the competitive up to 180cm class and another Kuusnõmm brother Raigo goes to the finals as well and places 5th. Janar Rückenberg makes a great showing too and ends on 9th spot. Siim Kelner represents Estonian junior CBB, does it successfully and places 5th. Ott Kiivikas gives one more reason to celebrate on Friday as he fights to the 2nd spot in BB up to 90kg class, only the over all winner ahead of him!

Saturday and Sunday are devoted to the rest of junior classes and women's open categories. The results are no weak for the Estonian team on these days either. The brightest star is without a doubt Endla Vaher who overshadows the rest of the group in junior fitness, wins not only her own class but also the over all title! Endla competes also among the open class competitors and takes 4th place in the taller class. Johanna Lond places 4th in the same junior class, Janika Aavamägi takes 12th spot in junior bikini fitness and Nikita Dvorkin is worth of 5th place in men's junior fitness class. Darola Kruusik makes a phenomenal showing in body fitness up to 163cm class, surprises many and takes an honorable 5th placement. Anastasia Žerdetskaija places on 17th in the tallest BF class. In bikini categories Reet Reimets catches the judges' eye and gets awarded with the bronze medal. The placements of the other bikini team members are: Egle Eller-Nabi (5th), Tatjana Kurilova (out of TOP 15), Kristina Nuut(9th), Aleksandra Laer (12th). Estonian WPD ambassador Esta Pilt competes both in WPD and masters BF class - result 8th in masters BF and 11th in short WPD class with 24 competitors.

In 5th-6th June, before the summer break, European TOP athletes - including Ott Kiivikas and Egle Eller-Nabi, gather in Prague to battle for the amateur Olympia titles and pro cards. After a long and hectic season Ott does not manage to bring his very best but still makes it to the TOP 10 (10th place) in up to 90kg with totally 22 competitors. Egle looks fantastic as she always does, makes it to the finals and takes another great achievement (6th) under her belt.

In 13th July Mr Pawel Filleborn, the chairman of IFBB judges committee visits Tallin, Estonia. Totally 18 athletes, judges and coaches attend his seminar about the sports and judging criteria.

On the next day - 14th of June - Estonian bodybuilding and fitness enthusiasts gather at the traditional FitCamp with lots of training, food and joy.

At 19th of September Kristina Nuut, Oleg Anissimov, Ott Kiivikas, Ellen Parik and Jekaterina Kern pack their posing suits and fly to Norway in order to compete at the Norway Open sports festival. Unfortunately Jekaterina and Ellen - despite their good appearances - are left outside of the finals in packed bikini fitness classes. Still the audience get the witness some Estonian physique excellence at Fredrikstad during the final session. Ott places 2nd in his class after ultimate conditioned Niro de la Rua. The evening is even more successful for Kristina and Oleg as they both take great victories in their classes.

During the same weekend Estonian team with 14 members attends the Riiga Pearl Cup. As expected, Egle Eller-Nabi gives no mercy but leaves the arena with the biggest trophy. Same thing does Kristina Aleksejeva who takes the top honors in the shortest bikini class. The placements of other Estonians are Reele Viirimaa 3rd in BF class, Regina Krukovskaja 3rd, Anastasia Dvorkina 5th, Tatjana Kurilova 6th, Merily Allak 9th (all in bikini fitness up to 166cm), Ene Tomingas 4th, Kati Kõrm 5th, Heddi Priivits 6th, Ada Lestsenski 10th, Signe Tilk 11th (all of them in bikini up to 169cm), Cärolin Paas 5th and Liis Vahter 8th (both in bikini over 169cm class).

Arnold Classic Europe is scheduled for the last weekend in September. Kristina Nuut, Egle Eller-Nabi, Reet Reimets and Ene Tomingas honor the Spain-located event with their participation. In competitive bikini classes Reet places 10th and Ene takes 13th place. Both Kristina and Egle make a breathe taking showings at the prejudging round and are seen in the finals round as well. Same trend continues in the finals, Egle takes the runner up spot in her class and Kristina ... she makes history and takes a BIG win under her belt.

Tatjana Kurilova, Ellen Parik and Ott Kiivikas continue their fall season at the Savickas Sports festival which is the kick off event in October. Tatjana places 6th, Ellen's showing is worth of 5th place and Ott does what he is used to do - wins his class and moreover places 2nd in the over all comparisons.

On 3th-6th October Mexico hosts the IFBB juniors and masters world championships and also welcomes Estonia's only athlete Endla Vaher to participate in the event. Endla makes simply a fantastic job, challenges the multi champion but has - this time - a mission impossible against Slovakian Dominika Multanova. Endla places 2nd and receives a silver medal to her massive trophy collection.

In October also...

Nordic Fitness Expo and Nicole Wilkins Championships takes place in Lahti, Finland at 11th-13th October. The first edition of Nicole Wilkins Fitness Championships tempts over 100 body fitness and bikini fitness competitors to battle for the trophies handed by 4 x Figure Olympia herself and for the pro cards. Also Kristina Aleksejeva, Tatjana Kreit, Regina Krugovskaja, Õnnela Raudsepp, Egle Eller-Nabi, Ene Tomingas, Signe Tilk, Heddi Priivits and Aleksandra Laer enter the prejudging stage on Saturday. Unfortunatelly only Kristina and Egle make it to the final round. Tatjana Kreit gets 12th place, Regina Krugovskaja places 13th, Õnnela Raudsepp ends up on 17th place, Ene Tomingas 10th, Signe Tilk 11th and Aleksandra Laer 10th.

In the Saturday evening right before the Nordic Pro show Egle and Kristina are brought to the main stage for the final comparisons. After many many quarter turns Kristina gets awarded with the 6th place and Egle celebrates the victory in up to 168cm class and makes her way to the over all comparisons. Egle's name is announced as a over all winner, she makes history, becomes first ever Nicole Wilkins Championships bikini over all winner and also first ever Estonian IFBB bikini PRO! She also gets a chance to make her pro debut during the same night and Egle decides to use this chance. Egle proves she belongs in the pro line up and her very first quarter turns as a IFBB pro brings her an amazing 7th place.

Only one week later - from 17th to 20th October - Kristina Nuut, Kristina Koroljak, Endla Vaher, Reet Reimets and Tatjana Kurilova compete at the IFBB women's world championships. The team represents country with pride and grace: Tatjana Kurilova is the first one left outside of the finals and places 7th and Reet Reimets makes another good appearance at the international stages and takes the 5th place. Enlda Vaher's combination of physique and routine is worth of 4th place in tall fitness class. Two silver medals fly to Estonia after the weekend as both Kristina Nuut and Kristina Koroljak are simply phenomenal and take the runner up placements.

On 18th October the grande finale of the national season - 46th Eesti Meistrivoislused and IX Innar Mardo memoriaalil - takes place in Tallin. Totally 56 literally hungry competitors enter the stage of Salme house of culture. Only a few leave the arena with a piece of gold around the neck though. This year these celebrated over all winners /class winners are:

In October also...

Ott Kiivikas has no time to celebrate the nationals title as he heads already on the next day, 19th October, to compete in Vilna, Lithuania. Result - 2nd placement in the over all category!

The last weekend of the month is devoted to annual Czech contest GP Pepa Opava. With some great memories from 2013 Estonia supports the show with 7 competitors who all make a good showing at this international event. Tatjana Kreit's, Alexandra Laer's and Peep Reinart's journey unfortunately ends before the pose downs but the rest of the crew are still in the mix in TOP 6 comparisons. Esta Pilt earns 3rd place in WPD category and Ott Kiivikas moves up in the ranks compared to 2013 and places 2nd. Kristina Nuut is 4th best bikini athlete of the day and Reet Reimets places 3rd in bikini superfinal.

On 1st November altogether 115 athletes representing 6 different countries meet up at the Nordic Championships hosted by IFBB Iceland to find out who are the very best bodybuilding and fitness athletes in the region of Nordic countries. Already at 9.00 am on Saturday the show kicks off with the prejudging rounds. Also 5 Estonians enter the stage in the morning session. Unfortunately their contest ends here as none of them make it to the finals. Peep Reinart's final placement is 8th in bodybuilding -80kg class, Esta Pilt takes 7th place in WPD, Siim Savisaar takes 8th place as well in short CBB class, Ene Tomingas gets tied 11th place in her class and Signe Tilk 10th. The only Estonian representing country in the final session is Ott Kiivikas. But do we need more if the result is what it is? As a warm up Ott takes his 5th(?) gold medal at the Nordics and then right after celebrates also his 3rd over all victory. This must be some kind of record, right?

In November also...

IFBB men's bodybuilding world championships and congress are held in Brazil at 12th-16th November. Like so many years before, Ott Kiivikas is the man taking care of Estonian representation. And like so many years before, he does fantastic job, unfortunately misses the TOP 6 only with 1 point and takes 7th place in BB up to 85kg class.

On 29th of November Egle Eller-Nabi p uts her high heels on to enter the pro stage in Moscow and do her career's 2nd pro show. Egle meets some top athletes including Bikini Olympia winner Ashley Kaltwasser, looks outstanding and takes 6th place.

In December , while the most are already focusing on Christmas candies, Meelis Susi and Peep Reinart are still on a contest mode and head to La Nucia, Spain to compete at the IFBB CBB world championships. Both have done their homework but this time the opponents are simply too tough. Meelis' final placement is 11th in up to 168cm class, Peep gets 9th place in up to 171cm class.

The 2014 year with many unforgettable and victorious moments ends with the EKFL gala where the best athletes of the year get awarded. As expected, the best male athlete of the year is Ott Kiivikas and the best female athlete Endla Vaher. Other awarded athletes are; Siim Kelner (best male junior), Endla Vaher (best female junior), Tauri Metsaviir (best teen athlete), Ott Kiivikas (best bodybuilding athlete), Rain Kuusnomm (best CBB athlete), Nikita Dvorkin (best male fitness athlete), Mattias Peters (best men's physique athlete), Kristina Nuut (best bikini fitness athlete), Darola Kruusik (best body fitness athlete), Esta Pilt (best veteran), Natalia Nazarenko-Kiivikas (best coach), Reval-Sport (best team), Regina Krukovskaja (crowd favorite).
