The 2nd Amateur Mr. Olympia is over. Medals and trophies have been distributed. If we look into the results, Egypt won 3 gold medals but the next four “golds” went to four different countries: Iran, Kuwait, Oman and Philippines. Especially, strong national team of Philippines may be a small surprise as this country didn’t participate neither at the continental nor world championships this year. Winning three medals in total, Philippines showed that bodybuilding is popular and at the high competitive level there. The other top countries are well-known as bodybuilding “nests”.

The biggest sensations? The win of Gerald Pangan (Philippines) over the world champion Ahmad Paydar (Iran), taking into account that Paydar won the first round 5:10. Then slightly lost the next two rounds by 2 points each. Similar situation in 90 kg class: John Cifra of Philippines, who is a Captain at the Oxygen Gym in Kuwait, took the 3rd position in the first round. Then moved up the 2nd place in the second round and to the 1st place in the third round but it was too late to pass Ibrahim Fahim of Egypt.

Former world champions had no easy moments on the stage in Kuwait. Hira Lal (India) lost to the 2012 Asian Championships runner-up Mohammad Ali Takapouei Iran). Only Ahmed El Sadany (Wardany) of Egypt, who moved to the upper class of 90 kg compared to the World Championships in Ecuador, was still unbeatable in this longest line-up category at this year’s Amateur Mr. Olympia.

The win of 2011 Arab Games champion Mohammad Al Rashed (Kuwait) over the 3rd in the world Suhas Khamkar (India) is an evidence of the remarkable progress of this local star and his advance to the world elite circle.

And the biggest sensation at the end: new super heavyweight champion and overall winner: Mamdouh Elssbiay (Egypt). As the Captain in the Oxygen Gym, he has been patiently training and improving. Now, without any previous contest history, he entered the stage and won! His boss and Amateur Mr. Olympia promoter Mr. Bader Boodai has the reason to be satisfied! After 2011 Worlds finalist and current pro bodybuilder Olama Salama he has now the next super heavyweight champion of the biggest caliber.

The top three in each category received the following prize money: USD 5000 (first place); USD 3000 (second place) and USD 2000 (third place). Olympia Weekend promoter Mr. Robin Chang told the IFBB Press Commission representative Igor Kopcek that it is highly possible that Amateur Mr. Olympia will be organized by Mr. Bader Boodai also in the next years; however bodybuilders from Europe will be invited to participate too.....
