Raske ja kriminaalne lapsepõlv Brooklynis (suurtest sporditähtedest on hullemini läinud vist küll ainult Allen Iversonil, kelle 8 parimat sõpra tapeti ühe suve jooksul gängivõitlustes). Selles osas muidugi kaastunne! Päästerõngaks osutus silmajäämine mainekatele treeneritele, misjärel kõva töövõime ja erakordne läbimurre noore poksijana Cus D`Amato käe all kulmineerusid lõpuks raskekaalu maailmameistritiitliga (noorim raskekaalu WBC maailmameister läbi aegade). Kuulsuse ja edu tuultes lõid lained muidugi pea kohal kokku, mis vallandas taas temas uinunud vägivaldse loomuse. See lõppes seksuaalkuriteoga, vanglaga ja islamiusku pöördumisega. Peale vanglat oli comeback edukas ja Tyson võitis tagasi mitu erinevat maailmameistritiitlit (vastasted olid küll väidetavalt kinni makstud), kuid uus fiasko tabas teda 1997. aastal Evander Holyfieldiga poksides. Miks Ali on läbi aegade kuulsaim poksija? Siin on lisaks fantastilisele poksioskusele ka nii mõnigi muu põhjus - ülimalt suure suuga neegerõiguslasest sporditäht suutis oma isikuga poksija Alist teha midagi palju suuremat ja olulisemat. Edetabeleid võib ju teha, aga tegelikult on ajavahed nii suured, et mehi on võimatu võrrelda.
