IFBB European Championships 2016 - Ott 1st place, Andra 2nd, Endla 3th!!

Recommended Posts

For the third consecutive year, this village near Barcelona (Spain), Santa Susanna, will host the European Championships, organized directly by the EBFF and in which it hopes to overcome the records of participation achieved in previous editions.

The Championships will be in May, from 4th to 8th, in an environment that athletes and fans know perfectly, since the village has hosted more than a dozen of international competitions, thanks to its strong relationship with the IFBB according the sports promotion developed by its representatives, as former mayor, Mr. Joan Campolier (IFBB Patron as well).

Last year, 42 of the 45 European countries, were represented at Santa Susanna and more than 1,000 athletes and officials took part in the Championships; figures which are expected to exceed this year 2016.

UPDATED 2016 European Championships Tentative Running Order and Schedule

The 2016 European Championships are almost here! Athletes of 64 categories are about to called on stage, and due to that, the EBFF wants to announce that there are some changes on the Tentative Schedule and Running order:

Men’s Physique and Muscular Men’s Physique competitions will be celebrated on different days. Men’s Physique semifinals and finals will take place on Saturday evening and Muscular Men’s Physique competition will be held on Sunday morning.

Please have in mind that the Running Order and Tentative Schedule might be submitted to changes, so it’s advisable for the atheltes to double check the IFBB website in a regular basis. The final Running Order and Schedule might be released after the Weight in.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

It is the athletes’ responsibility to be backstage before their category starts. Please be aware that some categories might run faster than others, and that is why the day of their competition all the athletes must be long in advance ready at the venue.

You can check the last version of both at the IFBB calendar.

IFBB.com previews men's CBB // http://www.ifbb.com/2016/04/2016-european-bodybuilding-and-fitness-championships-preview-1-mens-classic-bodybuilding-2/

Once again, Spanish Mediterranean resort of Santa Susanna will be the European Fitness and Bodybuilding capital at the beginning of May, hosting this year’s European Championships. Plenty of hotels located along the Paseo Maritimo Street will be our base and the well-known Parc Colomer Sport Center wil be the venue site. As the event combines seniors, juniors and masters championships, it will take nearly the whole week and will start with the EBFF Executive Council Meeting on Tuesday evening (May 3rd, 2016). Wednesday will be the arrival day, included hotel check-in, official athlete registration (10:00-21:00) as well as the team managers and judges meeting (17:30).

The IFBB Judges Committee, statisticians, Press Commission, organizing team and others will work during the night to make everything ready for Thursday morning. The day will begin with the annual EBFF Congress and from noon the battle on the stage will start. And will last till Sunday evening. Monday, May 9th, 2016, is a departure day.

The competition will be run in blocks of categories of the same division. It means that elimination rounds, semifinals and finals of one division, e.g. women’s bikini-fitness, will be run from the beginning (eliminations) to the end (victory ceremony and the overall category). The only exception is fitness, where four rounds are needed, so they will have semifinals one day earlier than the finals.

Men’s Classic Bodybuilding will have 5 senior’s (open) categories plus 1 junior open class and 2 master’s categories. Altogether 8 categories with over 100 competitors and many top stars among them.

Classic Bodybuilding up to 168 cm: last year’s champion Daniel Cubbedu is not coming but silver and bronze medal winners: Rain Kuusnõmm (Estonia) and Robert Horvat (Croatia) will be there. The challengers: 2016 Arnold USA runner-up Omar Obino (Italy), 2013 European Championships bronze medal winner Stanislav Vizenher (Ukraine) and last year’s finalist Giancarlo La Piana (Italy). Plus 6 other competitors.

Classic Bodybuilding up to 171 cm: from among the last year’s medal winners only Peep Reinart (Estonia) who finished third will come. The champion, Fernando Gornals (Spain), is not coming, silver medal winner Tomasz Laszko (Poland) lost at the national qualifying contest. Among the others we can see 2015 Arnold Europe semifinalist Pedro Ortega (Spain). Altogether, 13 top national athletes from 9 countries will be fighting for medals.

Classic Bodybuilding up to 175 cm: nobody from the last year’s top 6 but other renown athletes will compete. Among them, returning to the stage 2013 European champion Patrik Stiglic (Slovakia), who will try to regain the title. Then, two-time (2008 and 2009) world junior classic champion Lukas Topinka (Czech Republic). Now matured and more muscular, will show his full potential fighting against top seniors. Antonio Ludovico (Italy) is a former runner-up (2013). Started this season very early, at Arnold USA, scored out of the top 6, so will try to show his real power this time. Josep Mayoral (Spain) placed 6th at the 2015 World Championships and may dream about the medal zone this time. Last year’s 10th place winner Cristian Fekete (Romania) will try to improve his position and get to the finals.

Classic Bodybuilding up to 180 cm: from the last year’s finalist only 6th place winner, legendary Imre Vähi (Estonia), who promoted the “classic” version of bodybuilding even before it started, performing in “men’s body-fitness” (3rd place at the 2005 European Championships in Brasov, Romania. With over ten-year competitive history, still in a top condition and ready to surprise much younger champions. But this time the favorite is someone else: 2015 World Championships and 2015 Arnold Europe 4th place winner Antonio de la Torre (Spain). He is still improving and may aim at the continehtal victory. Then, last year’s European Junior Champiopnships bronze medal winner Patryk Jaskiewicz (Poland), who will debut among seniors. A week ago he won Polish Nationals, showing perfect body condition.

Classic Bodybuilding over 180 cm: the longest line-up with 19 competitors and the biggest sensation: last year’s European champion and World Championships runner-up in the up to 180 cm class (he was measured 180 cm tall) Hubert Kulczynski (Poland) has moved to this class from the beginning of this year. And already won the 2016 Arnold USA in Columbus, Ohio. With perfect body lines and muscle quality he may be considered a favorite but will have very demanding opponents. First, the top world classic bodybuilder from around 2010, Cristian Perez (Spain), who won many medals at the European and world championships between 2007 and 2010. Impressive, great comeback could be expected. Then, the next Polish star Jacek Ratusznik, who finished 5th at the 2015 Worlds and Arnold Europe as well as 4th at the 2016 Arnold USA. Young, combative, hungry of success. Then Zack McGuirk (United Kingdom) who has been climbing up in the hierarchy, taking the 2nd place at the 2015 Olympia Amateur Liverpool.

Junior Classic Bodybuilding open class: two last year’s medal winners: Jakub Szczerba (gold) and Patryk Jaskiewicz (bronze) are no juniors now but the silver medal winner Calle Bolund (Sweden) will have open doors to the top. He will have at least one very demanding opponent: 2015 world junior bodybuilding (up to 75 kg) champion Tomasz Marzec (Poland), who, following the national coach advice, will try in the classic version of the iron sport this time. Weighing around 74 kg, it will be no problem for him to get the classic bodybuilding weight limit. The other well-known top junior is last year’s finalist Emre Özkaram (Turkey).

Master Classic Bodybuilding 40-49 years old: 14 athletes in the list, with Antonio de La Torre (Spain) as a clear favorite. Surprisngly, other names are less-known.
Master Classic Bodybuilding over 50 years old: 8 athletes, with the current world champion Johnny Grape (Sweden), 53, who won the 2015 world title in San Salvador with perfect scores! Then, last year’s continental championships bronze medal winner Raymond Cassar (Malta), 54, and 4th place finisher Timo Kiviniemi (Finland), 55. Moreover, legendary 62-year-old Giancarlo La Piana (Italy), who can still compete against seniors (6th place last year). Older bodybuilders are admired by fans. One of them wrote in the net – ”This is what real inspiration and goals look like. This stuff is easy in your youth, but carrying this level of commitment into the second half of your life is where it’s at.”

Coming to the Parc Colomer Sport Center in Santa Susanna on Thursday, May 5th, at noon, you will be able to see all classic bodybuilders (juniors, masters and seniors) as it will be the opening part of the 2016 European Championships!

Bikini-Fitness up to 160 cm: 34 girls from 19 countries. The most successful ones are: 2015 Arnold Europe runner-up Yulia Khotkina (Russia), 2016 Arnold USA 4th place winner Krishna Kataria (United Kingdom) and 2015 Olympia Spain 3rd place winner Leiry Blanco (Spain). Also last year’s finalist (6th place) Regina Krukovskaja (Estonia). From the top 10 of the latest World Championships in Budapest: Erika Tarkulicova (Slovakia) and Nataliia Partaloha (Ukraine). Then a couple of last year’s European Championships semifinalists like Stefania Finessi (Italy) and Silwia Sobota (Poland). Khotkina could be considered a favorite but she is unstable from contest to contest, entering the medal zone or placing around 10th place. At the recent Russian Cup she took the 3rd position but won the 2015 Eastern European Championships. All other above mentioned girls are rising stars who may explode with a top condition and make a surprise.

Bikini-Fitness up to 163 cm: 33 girls from 22 countries. Interesting situation: four finalists (from 3rd to 6th places) of the latest World Championships in Budapest: Alexandra Kocsis (Hungary), Stanislava Pritrska (Slovakia), Anastasiya Kabanova (Ukraine) and Anastasiia Volkova (Russia). But Kocsis won the 2016 Arnold USA, so her condition is going up. Pritrska won the 2014 European Championships, so may dream to regain the title. Volkova placed 2nd, behind Kocis at the latest Arnold USA in Columbus. Dora Adanić (Croatia) was in the finals in 2014. Each of these girls may be the winner. The results of this super exciting and close battle will not be known till Sunday evening as Bikini-Fitness is the closing part of these Championships. And it will be a very emotional end!

Bikini-Fitness up to 166 cm: 26 girls from 17 countries. Top pretenders to final victory: 2015 World Championships runner-up and Arnold Europe 3rd place winner Natalia Rahushenko (Ukraine) and 2015 Arnold Europe and Olympia Europe (Prague) runner-up Aleksandra Mikucka (Latvia). Then two Swedish girls: World and European Championships (2014) finalist Madelen Myhr, who also won the Nicole Wilkins Championships in Lahti, but at the top contests used to place out of the top 3. Maybe will change this situation this year. Frida Sjöström won the 2014 Arnold Europe and finished 4th at the 2014 Worlds in Montreal. If returns to her top condition, may make a nice surprise. What about Kseniia Romanova (Russia)? Last year 8th place in Santa Susanna but then placed 2nd at the Eastern European Championships and won the recent Russian Cup, leaving behind other 23 girls. Next girls with some potentials and expectations: 2015 Olympia Amateur Liverpool runner-up Tímea Varga (Hungary) and 2014 Arnold Europe 4th place finisher Svetlana Lenivtseva (Moldova). If I have to point out the winner I would say – Rahushenko. She lost the world title by 1 point only (to Diana Salamon) and was really impressive!

Bikini-Fitness up to 169 cm: 31 girls from 20 countries. This time there is one great superstar and clear favorite: Oksana Brygidyr (Ukraine). Winning 2015 world title, European title and Olympia Europe (Prague) she didn’t lose any contest in 2015 and is not going to lose her next performance! She is very stable, very professional, very self-confident. Top quality!

The most demanding opponents, two Slovak girls: European Championships runner-up and the Worlds finalist Valeria Marcisovska as well as 2014 Worlds finalist Jana Milova. Marcisovska is the only athlete who managed to be tied with Brygidyr (10:10 at the 2015 European Championships), so who knows… Their battle should be extremely close and spectacular! Then, two-time continental championships bronze medal winner Reet Reimets (Estonia). Will she add the third “bronze” to her collection or… improve a bit? Matilde Biagini (Italy) was in the finals of 2015 Arnold Europe, while Anna Borovikova (Russia) was a dark horse at the latest Russian Cup (won it) and may play the same role in Santa Susanna.

Bikini-Fitness up to 172 cm: 20 girls from 15 countries. At the top, the next tough battle: Ekaterina Lapteva (Russia) vs. Mariia Kvasnikova (Ukraine). At the previous European Championships Lapteva placed 2nd, just 3 points ahead of Kvasnikova but at the Worlds in Budapest Kvasnikova finished 3rd while Lapteva dropped to the 6th position. However, Lapteva also won 2015 Arnold Europe (over 27 girls) and the recent Russian Cup. Then two stars from Slovakia: Veronika Gulasova and Saskia Cakoci. They are almost equal: Gulasova placed 3rd at the 2015 Arnold Europe while Cakoci finished 4th at the World Championships. At Olympia Prague Gulasova was the winner, 1 point over Cakoci, in Lahti Cakoci was 1 point better than Gulasova. Who can predict the result of their next meet? You can play “heads or tails”. And what about Daniela Bečková (Czech Republic)? Surprisingly won 2015 Olympia Spain. Is she ready to repeat this achievement?

Bikini-Fitness over 172 cm: 26 girls from 17 countries. Last year’s European Championships overall winner Kseniia Sheveleva (Russia) is coming to repeat her success but it will not be an easy task. Later on Sheveleva lost many contests to Olga Putrova and Olivia Pohankova; however, neither Putrova or Pohankova comes to Santa Susanna this year. So, there will be no danger from this side but there will be one new demanding opponent: 2014 world junior champion and World Cup winner Yevheniia Suprun (Ukraine) and a couple of other girls who used to place in the finals of the biggest international competitions: Helga Stibi (Ireland), Veronika Serzante (Latvia) or Shirley van den Bos (Netherlands). Maybe, one of them improved so much that will be able to challenge Sheveleva? The situation on the stage may develop in an unpredictable direction.

Junior Bikini-Fitness: 3 categories with 47 girls. Among them last year’s 160 cm class and overall winner Sabina Plevakova (Slovakia) and her team-mate, 2015 world overall junior champion Timea Trajtelova as well as 2015 World Junior Championships tall class runner-up Frida Paulsen Stern (Sweden) and 2014 Worlds tall class runner-up Erika Kandracova (Slovakia). Other girls are new, rising stars.

Master Bikini-Fitness open class: the biggest category at these Championships with 41 competitors! Frida Sjöström (Sweden) comes to regain the title but other famous stars like Ana Lia Hernandez (Spain), Liz Richardson (United Kingdom) and Elsa Pena (Portugal) will try to stop her.

And IFBB.com previews the men's BB classes // http://www.ifbb.com/2016/05/2016-european-bodybuilding-and-fitness-championships-mens-bodybuilding-preview/

Bodybuilding up to 70: Bodybuilding categories will begin with strong accent as we will see on the stage legendary bodybuilder from Slovakia, six-time world champion and World Games winner Igor Kocis. He won his first European title in 2000 and word title in 2001. But at the previous European Championships Kocis lost to Roman Iushchenko (Ukraine), future world champion. Kocis turns 40 this year, becoming a master bodybuilder but looking into the list of 10 lightweight participants I can’t see any name who could challenge him. Maybe his team-mate Miroslav Skadra who was the bronze medal winner in 2014 but recent contests was not so successful for him (5th place in Santa Susana last year and 9th place at the 2016 Arnold USA). Then, last year’s top ten Sebastian Vasut (Romania) and Mediterranean Championships runner-up Alexandre Bozonnet (France).

Bodybuilding up to 75: 14 competitors from 12 countries. Among the last year’s silver medal winner Raigo Kuusnõmm (Estonia). It seems that his main opponents will be: 2015 Arnold Europe winner Maurizio Montaldo(Italy) and Spanish bodybuilder Carles Viñals who finished 4th at the 2015 Olympia Spain and at the 2014 Arnold Classic Europe. The rest are less-known challengers.

Bodybuilding up to 80: 21 competitors from 12 countries. No clear favorite. One meaningful comeback of the 2013 European champion (75 kg class) Jan Sotak (Slovakia). Now heavier and bigger but what will be his muscle quality? Then two bodybuilder who recently confirmed their top body condition: 2016 Arnold USA 2nd place winner Filippo Masucci (Italy) and 2016 Malta Grand Prix overall winner Rafael Beltran (Spain). Plus last year’s 5th place winner David Alexander (Ireland). And two finalists from 2014 European Championships: Charles Barbe (France) and Alberto Alonso (Spain) – in 85 kg. The winner will emerge from this melting pot, but who will it be?

Bodybuilding up to 85: 17 competitors from 10 countries. The next category where the elimination round will be needed. And very excited one as three former runner-ups will appear on the stage: Ott Kiivikas (Estonia), Krzysztof Skryplonek and Mariusz Balazinski (both of Poland). In 2014 Balazinski won over Skryplonek (Kiivikas placed 2nd in 90 kg class), in 2015 Skryplonek won over Kiivikas (Balazinski dropped to the 8th position). Skryplonek and Kiivikas met in a couple of regional contests held in March and April 2016. At all of them Kiivikas won over Skryplonek but Skryplonek’s body quality has been improving from contest to contest. Who will show harder and deeper separated muscles in Santa Susanna? Will Kiivikas managed to maintain top body conditions from previous contests? Will Skryplonek reach his peak condition in Santa Susanna? Will Balazinski be back in the game for top trophies (he won qualification open round in Poland)? Will some new star be born among other 14 bodybuilders?

Bodybuilding up to 90: 19 competitors from 12 countries. Some of them with very interesting sport career. Tomas Tabaciar (Slovakia) was the 2010 European Championships overall winner but in Classic Bodybuilding. In 2013 moved to the extreme version of the Iron Sport but his first success came in 2015, when he won the Olympia Amateur Prague (90 kg class). This is an evidence that he has finally reached peak condition in bodybuilding. Then, the next top competitor from Olympia: Sergey Rodin (Russia) who placed 2nd at the 2014 Olympia Amateur Moscow. And the 3rd renown champion: Hamit Görkem Gürsoy (Turkey), bronze medal winner (95 kg class) at the 2013 European Championships. Will they distribute medals among them or someone else will enter the game?

Bodybuilding up to 95: 12 competitors from 10 countries. Among them Roman Dudushkin (Russia) who is the only last year’s European open category champion who comes to regain the title. There will be the next 2015 European champion Manuel Cañadillas (Spain) who won masters category 40-49 , up to 90 kg. Then placed 2nd at 2015 Olympia Amateur Spain 90 kg open class, just behind famous Ahmed Ashkanani. Now a bit heavier and bigger, will be a very demanding challenger for Dudushkin. Who else can fight for medals? There are a couple of pretenders: 2013 European overall junior champion Marko Barić (Croatia), two-time European Championships classic bodybuilding bronze medal winner Oleg Kakorin (Russia) who will debut in extreme bodybuilding, 2014 European Championships 4th place winner Rabi Fahkro (Sweden) or former European masters overall champion Jakub Potocki (Poland).

Bodybuilding up to 100 kg: 16 competitors from 10 countries. It may happen that the main battle for the gold medal will be run among competitors who originally represented non-European countries: Djalma Laroque (Spain) and Reza Kakavand (Azerbaijan). Laroque won silver medal for Brazil at 2014 Arnold USA and won Arnold Brazil, while Kakavand won silver medals for Iran at 2012 Arnold Europe and Olympia Amateur Kuwait. Then, two competitors from the finals of the 2015 World Championships: 5th place winner Arne Lundell (Sweden) and 6th place finisher Gilberto Ciriello (Italy). The gap between them was 1 point only! Plus Pascal Chukwu (Netherlands) who won in a great style 2016 Loaded Cup in Germany few weeks ago. The battle will be tough!

Bodybuilding over 100 kg: 14 competitors from 10 countries. Among them two finalists from last year’s European Championships: silver medal winner Andrey Makeev (Russia) and 4th place finisher Matteo Innocenti (Italy). They will be fighting for the top trophy but will also have to win over two good competitors from 2016 Arnold USA: 6th place winner Andre Dufrasness (Belgium) and 7th place winner Andrea Presti (Italy). Then, former European classic bodybuilding champion Deividas Dubinas (Lithuania) and Adam Kozyra (Ukraine) who was very successful in other organizations but finished 14th at the 2015 IFBB World Championships and will try to move up in the final order.
