A written preview by IFBB // http://www.ifbb.com/2015/09/next-weekend-2015-olympia-amateur-europe-prague-czech-republic/

by Andrew Michalak

Begun with the latest Arnold Classic Europe held last weekend in Madrid, IFBB autumn sport season accelerates quickly. Next weekend, October 02-03, in the heart of Europe, the next prestigious IFBB international event will be held in Prague, Czech Republic: Olympia Amateur Europe. By the way, few days later, on October 07-10 (middle of the week), Ben Weider Diamond Cup will take place on the Kish Island, Persian Gulf, Iran. And then Nordic Expo in Lahti, Finland, and much more, including 4 World Championships and 5 Amateur Olympias Having a big international competition (or two) every weekend, the last IFBB contest this year will be the World Junior & Masters Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador, scheduled for December 11-14, just a week before Christmas. Incredible season!

Back to the Olympia in Prague, looking into the list of nominated athletes, we can see that this year’s Olympia Europe will set a new record of participation, with 252 competitors, compared to 225 athletes last year. And this is a “young” event, started not so far ago, in 2012, with 3 categories and 28 competitors. Now 17 categories and over 250 competitors. Amazing progress thanks to Organizers: EVL and CKD Group and their visionary way of thinking.

Who and where?
WOMEN’S BIKINI-FITNESS
Five categories with 84 competitors. The first class, up to 163 cm, will have the longest line-up, with 29 athletes. Among them 2014 World Championships finalist Svitlana Sydorenko (Ukraine), 2015 European Championships finalist Virag Kiss (Hungary), 2015 Arnold Europe runner-up Yulia Khotkina (Russia), masters champion Karolína Tlustá (Czech Republic) and 2014 World Cup 3rd place winner Nira Mählmann (Germany). Probably Virag Kiss is not satisfied with her 4th place at Arnold Europe last weekend (she was the winner in 2013), so she will try to place higher. Khotkina won the silver medal in Madrid, so why not to fight for the gold this time?

Up to 166 cm category: fantastic return match between the top three from the latest Arnold Europe in Madrid; Ekaterina Krasavina (Russia), Aleksandra Mikucka (Latvia) and Natalia Rahushenko (Ukraine). Enough to say that in Madrid Mikucka lost to Krasavina by 1 point and Rahushenko by 2 points. Every solution possible!

Up to 169 cm category: 2015 European champion Oksana Brygidyr (Ukraine) will meet European Championships runner-up (but from 166 cm class) Diana Salamon (Hungary). This will be an exciting duel.

Up to 172 cm category: from 2015 Arnold Europe finals only Karen Thompson (Iceland) and a couple of aspiring semifinalists: Josefa Westphal (Chile), Andrea Lackner (Austria), Veronica Mancini (Italy). In this situation 2014 World Championships 4th place winner Kathrin Pfefferkorn (Weishaupt) of Germany seems to be a favorite but…there will be one interesting comeback: first Olympia Europe runner-up and 2012 Arnold Europe 4th place winner Martina Abukhlal (Switzerland). How will she look after this break? Moreover, Arnold Europe 4th place winner Alena Yarovan (Russia).
Over 172 cm category: the current European overall champion Kseniia Sheveleva (Russia) and runner-up Adéla Storzerová (Czech Republic). Last weekend in Madrid they took 3rd and 4th places respectively. Interesting return battle.

MEN’S BODYBUILDING

Up to 80 kg category: the runner-up from Madrid Alex Zuccaro (Italy) and classic bodybuilding 3rd place winner Gergely Arnold (Hungary). But also two finalist from the 2014 European Championships: silver medal winner Aleksei Denisov (Russia) and 6th place winner Tobias Gerblinger (Germany).

Up to 90 kg category: Arnold Europe unsatisfied runner-up (won two rounds but lost the title) Josef Furin (Czech Republic) seems to be a strong candidate to win. His main opponent Simone Maiattini (Italy) was 5th in 85 kg class. Who else? Former top European juniors: Vladimir Iacovlev ()Moldova) and René Gorol (Czech Republic)? Richard Čada (Czech Republic) who had his best years around 2000?

Up to 100 kg category: Jakub Šubrt (Czech Republic) comes directly from Madrid, where he took the 4th position. Last year in Prague he was 3rd and, for sure, will want to improve his achievements. Former European Championships runner-up and last year 6th place winner in Prague Tomasz Lech (Poland) has the same dreams. And what about the former world classic bodybuilding champion and last year 8th place winner in Prague Michal Sitter (Czech Republic)? He has much higher aspirations.

Over 100 kg category: one megastar “always second” Petar Klančir (Croatia) and a lot of challengers: Arnold Europe 4th place winner Dmitrii Krylov (Russia), 7th place winner Marek Szostak (Germany) and Olympia Spain runner-up Stefano Di Muzio who completely failed in Madrid and is looking to regain the prestige. But the winner maybe someone else: 2013 Russian champion and Arnold Europe 3rd place winner Ivan Vodyanov, who moved from 100 kg class to the super heavyweight category. Now is heavier and bigger. Russian bodybuilders are very good this autumn…

In Women’s Fitness short class next exciting duel of the Arnold Europe winner Anna Dudushkina (Russia) and 3rd place finisher Nikolett Szabó (Hungary). In the tall class sensational Arnold Europe runner-up and still 15 years old children champion Vanessa Belova (Latvia) will meet former world junior champion and the current World Women’s Championships runner-up Oksana Orobets (Ukraine).

In Women’s Bodyfitness up to 163 cm class great combat of Arnold Europe winner Doina Gorun (Italy) and World Championships bronze medal winner Margita Zámolová (Czech Republic), with the second top Italian Roberta Visintainer who may surprise us.

In Women’s Bodyfitness up to 168 cm class 2014 European overall winner and 2015 Arnold Europe winner Olena Chumakova (Ukraine) seems to be “untouchable”. In the tall class, over 168 cm, two finalist of Arnold Europe from Spain: Sara Rodriguez (2nd place) and Noelia Segura (4th place) will clash once again. But there will also be two interesting comebacks of competitors who their best results achieved in 2011: Arnold Classic winner and Worlds bronze medal winner Christine Schranz (Austria) and European Championships runner-up Melanie Niebergall (Germany). Will they be able to fight for medals once again?

In Men’s Physique up to 174 cm we will see world champion Carlos Nuñez and European champion Carlos González (both of Spain). It will be their next fascinating meet (at the 2015 European Championships they were the top two in 170 cm class).

In the tall class, over 178 cm, 2014 World Cup winner Ramses Rodríguez Fernández (Spain), European Championships bronze medal winner Francesco Montuori (Italy), Austrian brothers Christoph and Alexander Friedl, World Cup bronze medal winner Miroslav Kadlec (Czech Republic). It will be a tough battle.
