IFBB WORLD FITNESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 – WHO WILL BE THERE?

by Andrew Michalak

The Organizing Committee office in Montreal is working at full swing now, Joe Spinello’s assistant Ms. Valérie Potel tries to co-ordinate all arrivals and departures, Mr. Spinello has to fix all details at the venue (Salle André Mathieu)and in the hotel (Sheraton Laval). Salle André Mathieu with 827 seats is known for its high quality acoustics and technical equipment. This is a perfect place to display the beauty and harmony of the human body. In each of six IFBB sport divisions the body is presented in a different style. In Bikini Fitness, like on the baroque paintings, you can see contours, shape and smoother skin. In Bodyfitness: more details and sharper lines. In Women’s Physique: bigger muscles and rounded bodyparts. In Men’s Physique: delicate lines and harder muscularity. But the last two divisions are very special. In Mixed Pair we can see two bodies, male and female, moving in motion, with art and rhythm, showing not only their bodies but also feelings and mood. Fitness is at the top: is more dynamic, more athletic, more flexible, where the smallest details and gestures count and have their meanings. Fitness is a combination of art and sport, of move and power, of emotions and feelings.

I will start our presentations of stars coming to Montreal from this sport art as almost the whole world fitness elite will be there.

Men’s Fitness

Last year’s champion Konstantin Nekrasov (Russia) will come to defend the title. Former world champion Oleg Anissimov (Estonia) will try to regain the title. Last year’s bronze medal winner and the current European champion Fedir Khashalov (Ukraine) is dreaming about “better” color of medal this year. Plus the next two medal winners at the latest European Championships: phenomenal in the routine round Nazar Kharkhun (Ukraine) and 2013 world junior champion Mihai Moruz (Romania). And the 2014 Eastern European Championships runner-up Anton Mushtanov (Russia). Moreover, new competitor from Norway: Martin Heede, with martial arts and men’s physique experience. Having all these great stars on one stage, we can expect the best ever men’s fitness championships!

Women’s Fitness up to 163 cm

Over 10 competitors, with the current women’s and juniors world champion: Dominika Multanova (Slovakia). But the next two medal winners from Kiev (last year’s Worlds) will also be there: Kristina Koroljak (Estonia), who won the routine round last year and Olga Volokh (Russia) – an amazing matured lady who displays the best silhouette on the stage. Volokh was the 2012 world champion and will try to regain the title. But there will be more determined and hungry challengers: current European champion Anna Dudushkina (Russia) who returned to stage in a great style at the 2014 European Championships in Santa Susanna, the next two medal winners from Santa Susanna: Georgiiana Padure (Romania), who won both routine rounds and Emma Paveley (United Kingdom). Plus former top world junior Laura Cupsa (Romania) who already placed 4th at the European Women’s Championships (2012).

Women’s Fitness over 163 cm

Not less attractions. Almost all finalists of the last year’s Worlds, only the world champion Natalia Nazarenko-Kiivikas will be… the Stage Director this time. On the stage we will see: 2014 World Ladies Cup and Amateur Olympia Europe overall winner Liudmila Nikitina (Russia), former European champion and 2014 Amateur Olympia runner-up Tatiana Dvortsova (Russia), former World Championships runner-up and 2013 European champion Barbora Seckarova-Buncakova (Slovakia), 2012 Women’s Worlds runner-up and 2014 World Ladies Cup runner-up Oksana Orobets (Ukraine), former top world junior and 2013 European Women’s Championships runner-up Endla Vaher (Estonia), two finalists of the recent European Championships: Giorgia Foroni (Italy) and Essi Sarja (Finland). Nikitina, Dvortsova, Seckarova and Orobets change place from contest to contest, so there is a big unknown this time also but top emotions are quaranted!

IFBB preview part 2 (body fitness and bikini) http://www.ifbb.com/ifbb-world-fitness-championships-2014-who-will-be-there-pt-2

IFBB WORLD FITNESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 – WHO WILL BE THERE Pt. 2
Bodyfitness and Bikini Fitness
by Andrew Michalak

Very strong teams from Ukraine, Slovakia, Estonia and three Scandinavian countries: Norway, Sweden and Finland. Beside the host country, Canada, the biggest team from Brazil. Also many competitors from Australia and South Africa. Most of them are new names, successful at the national level till now. Canadian competitors had their IFBB International Events Qualifier. Some of them participated also in the 2014 North American Championships in Pittsburgh, USA.
BIKINI FITNESS

Bikini Fitness up to 160 cm category
Almost full semifinal, with a couple of well-known names. Only one finalist from the last year’s Worlds in Kiev: Lizelle Horn (South Africa). Will she do better than 6th place this time? Maria del Pilar (Spain) lost only to phenomenal Romina Basualdo at the recent Arnold Europe in Madrid. She may be considered an the main pretender to the top trophy. (Basualdo is not coming to Montreal). Then, the runner-up of the latest Nicole Wilkins Cup in Lahti, Jaana Malytcheva (Finland). And 2013 Arnold Europe winner and 2014 Arnold USA 3rd place winner Virag Kiss (Hungary). Moreover, two girls from Brazil and two from Australia. Who knows? Usually, Australian girls did very well at the world level. And Karen Pham from Canada who was 4th at their Qualifier.

Bikini Fitness up to 163 cm category
Nobody from the finals in Kiev but the 7th place winner Anita Bekus (United Kingdom) who moved to the 4th place at the latest Arnold Europe. Also the runner-up at this event Rodika Bodrug (Sweden). Then the current European champion Stanislava Pritrska (Slovakia) and South American Championships runner-up Natalia Ortega (Ecuador). Plus 2014 Arnold Classic South America winner Naiara Schubert (Brazil) and two very good competitors from Norway: 2014 Amateur Olympia finalist Sandra Jokic and Jeanette Elstad. Also the European Championships finalist Michaela Brutenic (Slovakia).

Bikini Fitness up to 166 cm category
New category compared to the last year’s Worlds in Kiev (there was 168 cm class). Two girls from the top three at the latest Arnold Europe: the winner Frida Sjöström (Sweden) and the 3rd place winner Ruth Dales (United Kingdom). Plus 2013 Arnold Europe winner Timea Varga (Hungary) and 2014 European Championships bronze medal winner Madelen Myhr (Sweden). And top ten players from different international contests: Sarah Allen and Alice Round (both of Australia), Veronica Dalsnes (Norway) and Margarita Veverica (Latvia). From Canada Marie Robertson, 2nd at the latest Canadian Nationals.

Bikini Fitness up to 169 cm category
Also a new category, so new configuration of participants. But one mega star, who didn’t lost any contest since 2014 Arnold USA, winning the overall titles at the recent Arnold Classic Europe plus gold medals at the World Ladies Cup, European Championships and Amateur Olympia Europe. Incredible series of victories. Will someone stop her? Sometimes she lost to Egle Eller-Nabi (Estonia) like at the 2013 Arnold USA. There also will be 2014 Amateur Olympia and European Championships runner-up Karina Skowronska (United Kingdom), so if anybody could challenge Viazmetinova, it would be Eller-Nabi and Skowronska. Eller-Nabi won the latest Nicole Wilkins Cup in Lahti, so is in a top body condition. Marina Diaz (France) placed ahead of Viazmetinova at the 2014 Arnold USA. Who knows? From Canada Carrie Hensman, 3rd at their Nationals.

Bikini Fitness up to 172 cm category
One great star: 2014 European Championships and Amateur Olympia overall winner Alla Semenova (Ukraine). If anybody could stop her, it will be 2014 Arnold Europe winner Kristina Nuut (Estonia) or 2014 European Championships runner-up Brigitta Bekefi (Hungary). Maybe the current South American champion Nicolle Muller Ollandezos(Brazil). Other competitors often in the finals of the international contests: Kathrin Weishaupt (Germany) and Reet Reimets (Estonia). And Sarah Rennick from Canada, probably their best bikini athlete, 2nd place winner at the North American Championships.

Bikini Fitness over 172 cm category
The next meet of three top stars: 2013 Arnold Europe and 2014 European Championships winner Olga Putrova (Russia), 2014 European Championships and 2014 Amateur Olympia runner-up Paula Banot (Poland) and 2014 Arnold Europe winner Olivia Pohankova (Slovakia). These three stars change places between them almost at every meet. Impossible to point out the winner. Kathrin Hollmann (Germany) won a week ago in Lahti and placed 3rd at the 2013 and 2014 Arnold Europe. She is moving up. The same Bilyana Yotovska (Bulgaria) who entered the finals of the latest Arnold Classic Europe. From Canada Angeline Jeanson (3rd) and Nneka Ezurike (4th) at their Qualifier.

BODYFITNESS

Bodyfitness up to 158 cm
We can expect close duel of three top international stars: Angela Derzapf (Germany) Antonina Berebenia (Ukraine) and Veronica Gallego (Spain). Berebnia will come to defend the world title won last year in Kiev. Derzpaf slightly won over Berebenia at the 2014 World Ladies Cup in Kiev as well as won the 2013 Arnold USA and placed 2nd this year. At the 2014 European Championships she won over Gallego. But Gallego won the first Amateur Olympia Latin America and many masters categories at different contests. She is still improving! Plus the last year’s bronze medal winner Inna Trofymenkova (Ukraine). Any solution possible! There will also be the current South American champion Susana Alegre (Argentina) as well as two top quality Italian girls: Roberta Visintainer and Valentina Mazzola From Canada Valerie Melancon.

Bodyfitness up to 163 cm
2013 world champions Gabriella Szabo will be back! In 2013 she had a great series of winnings: at the European Championships (overall), at Arnold Europe and at the Worlds. Nobody more from the finals of the last year’s Worlds but 2012 finalist and 2012 Arnold Europe runner-up Kristina Skjelberg (Sweden) who will try to place in the top three once again. Then the sensational winner form Lahti, Julie Oftedal (Norway), who won over Derzapf there! Plus two experienced master competitors: Cristina Romano (Italy) and Margita Zamolova (Czech Rep.) and 2009 South American champion and 2012 Worlds finalist Analia Galeano (Argentina).

Bodyfitness up to 168 cm
The next mega star: 2013 world champion and European overall winner as well as 2013 Arnold Europe winner Adela Ondrejovicova (Slovakia). Surprisingly, she was scored in the 11th place at the latest Arnold Europe (overlooked?) but a week ago won in Lahti, earning the Pro Card. The next pretender to win is the 2014 World Ladies Cup winner and 2014 European Championships overall winner Olga Chumakova (Ukraine). The next stars: 2012 Worlds bronze medal winner Michaela Ruzickova (Czech Rep.) and 2014 Arnold Europe finalist Hanna Saario (Finland). From Canada Nadine Young, 7th at the 2014 North American Championships and 2011 Powershack Classic winner.

Bodyfitness over 168 cm
The current European champion Kinga Szweda seems to be the top pretender; however she lost at the 2014 Arnold Europe. For sure, will try to rebuild her position. The next top contender: 2014 European Championships runner-up (in the 168 cm class) Federica Ghezzi (Italy). Plus three top Canadian athletes: Barbara Molyneaux, Erin Stuart and Marie Pier Hebert. Stuart was 2013 Canadian champion and 2014 runner-up.
